Thank you for choosing to submit to Criterion. To help our editors, we ask that you format your paper according to traditional MLA guidelines. This will allow us to quickly and efficiently transfer your paper to the journal if you are published. Please keep the following in mind:
- Times New Roman (12 pt) font
- Double spaced
- Single spaces (not double spaces) after periods and in between words
- No spaces before/after paragraphs
- 1-inch margins on all sides
- First line indentations should be ½ inch
- Use italics (not underline) to denote titles of long works, such as books, plays, or magazines. When absolutely necessary, use for emphasis as well.
- Use em-dashes (—) rather than double hyphens.
- Do not use a title page.
- Do not include your name or university within the paper itself (to assist in double-blind review).
- For subheadings, just make them very clear. Flush left and bolded is one example.
- Please make sure your cited web links will work for editors. Make sure they redirect properly, even when you’re logged out of sites and programs.
- If your article uses images, make sure you have legal permission to use them in the publication; contact Criterion editors with questions.
- For works cited, use the current MLA format, following this basic structure:
- Last, First. “The Title of the Short Work,” The Title of the Longer Work, editors, Version, number, publisher, publication date, location (if applicable), DOI/URL.
